Hungary forms nuclear alliance with ten European countries

Hungary has formed a nuclear alliance with 10 European countries. Eleven EU Member States, led by France, agreed in Stockholm to deepen cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

11 EU countries form nuclear alliance

The alliance includes France, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. The ministers of these countries agreed that nuclear energy is one of the means to achieve climate targets and ensure energy security, napi.hu reports.

The parties have agreed to support new nuclear developments, mainly based on innovative technology, as well as the operation of existing plants. They also agreed to launch joint training programmes and to strengthen scientific cooperation. Member States see nuclear energy as a means to decarbonise the economy.

Nuclear power accounts for 25 percent of Europe’s electricity generation. As it emits less carbon dioxide than wind energy or solar panels, it can make a significant contribution to the EU’s 2050 carbon neutrality target.

Hungary, Egypt sign deal on joint use of Suez Canal Economic Zone

The governments of Hungary and Egypt have signed an agreement on cooperation in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), giving Hungarian companies a good chance to launch investments in the region, the Hungarian foreign minister said on Tuesday. Péter Szijjártó told a Hungarian-Egyptian business forum in Cairo that the government had “created the best possible conditions” for successful cooperation between the two countries’ companies.

In political cooperation, Hungary and Egypt signed a strategic partnership agreement earlier in the day, he said. Their political stances are also similar, he said, noting that “both countries have emphasised the importance of peace under the present circumstances, and stand up for national sovereignty and interests.”

Hungary’s Eximbank has opened a EUR 100 million credit line to financially support company cooperation, he added. On bilateral economic ties, Szijjártó noted that in a flagship project of cooperation, the Hungarian transport industry received the largest commission of its history from Egypt, and has recently delivered 1,350 railway carriages.

Regarding tourism and education, there are 17 flights connecting the two countries every week, and Hungary has raised the government grants for Egyptian students in Hungary to 200 every year, he said.

Szijjártó said the delegation to Egypt included businessmen representing “world-class Hungarian technology” in water management, infocommunications and transport, hoping to “conduct fruitful talks” with Egyptian companies. The delegation is headed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi earlier in the day.

  1. YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Instead of wasting billions of dollars on pursuit of the “green” nonsense (which is not eco-friendly at all, when you look at the nuts and bolts of it), we need to pivot toward the super clean, efficient, and reliable nuclear energy. It’s a no-brainer. Of course, that goes against various vested interests who want the “green” subsidy gravy train to keep rolling. It’ll be quite a battle…
